Some of NDT Australia’s most powerful equipment uses radiographic imaging as a Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) technique. NDT Australia supplies a large plethora of high-quality radiographic NDT equipment for use in civil, mining, construction, infrastructure, aerospace and manufacturing industries. You may use our technology to evaluate the condition of critical components: by inspecting for defects, inconsistencies and damage on their surface and within their volume. In this blog article we answer the question: “What is radiographic testing?” and provide details about how radiographic NDT operates in the field.
Define: Radiographic Testing
Before we define radiographic testing, it is helpful to provide a rundown of non-destructive testing as a field. Non-destructive testing is a method of inspecting an object or its components for defects, inconsistencies and damage without harming the object being tested. Some non-destructive testing techniques use physical inspection to assess the surface of critical structural components. Other techniques use ultrasonic waves or eddy current testing to determine the integrity of an object. Radiographic testing, in contrast, uses either X-Rays or Gamma rays to penetrate the surface of an object and relay a three-dimensional image of the structure to an external computer, or capture the image on film. Any defects, inconsistencies or defects in the structure are outlined in this image in an easy-to-see way.
What Varieties of Radiographic Imaging Exist?
In industrial radiography there are several imaging methods available to display the final image: Film radiography, real time radiography, computer tomography, digital radiography and computed radiography. All of these methods use a source of radiation and detector to summarise the shape and condition of an object or its components.
What Is The Principle of Radiographic Non-Destructive Testing?
The basic tenant of radiographic non-destructive testing is that a material’s thickness and density will have an effect on radiation particles fired through the object by a source. The processes of scattering and absorption work on an atomic scale to disperse radiation particles projected onto a detector. In areas where there is defect or damage present, the radiation received by the sensor is more available and therefore returns a darker image on the image calculated by the methods listed in the paragraph above.
Buy Radiographic Testing Equipment Australia
NDT Australia supplies a range of radiographic testing and imaging equipment used to inspect pipes, building, structural and manufacturing components, infrastructure structures and marine and aerospace vehicles. We stock radiographic sources, projectors and digital imaging equipment, including printers, Australia-wide. Our radioactive sources (X-Ray and Gamma ray) are safe to use, assuming proper certification is held by the end user. Our equipment is useful in both lab and field settings and can be easily configured for use in either.
